Where He Stands

The Issues

Priorities rooted in the daily lives of District 60B families.

01

Affordable Housing and Stable Communities

Housing should be within reach for every family. In District 60B, renters, students, seniors, immigrant families, workers, and young people are all feeling the pressure of rising rents, displacement, and limited affordable housing options.

Mohamud believes housing is the foundation for opportunity. When families have stable housing, children do better in school, workers can keep their jobs, seniors can age with dignity, and neighborhoods remain strong.

Mohamud has fought for rent assistance, homelessness prevention, supportive housing, tenant protections, and investments that help families stay in the communities they call home. He has also worked to strengthen renter protections, including protections for students and tenants when housing providers fail to deliver safe, livable housing as promised.

He will continue fighting to lower housing costs, prevent displacement, preserve naturally affordable housing, support first-time homebuyers, and make sure public investments reach the families and neighborhoods that need them most.

02

Strong Public Education and Student Opportunity

Every child deserves an excellent education, no matter their zip code, income, language, or background.

As a former Minneapolis Board of Education member, Mohamud understands the importance of listening to students, families, educators, and school staff. He believes public schools must be fully funded, safe, welcoming, and prepared to support the whole child.

Mohamud supports fully funded public schools, early learning, school-linked mental health, special education support, higher education access, youth programming, and strong support for educators and education support professionals.

District 60B is home to students from early learning through higher education, including the University of Minnesota and Augsburg University communities. Mohamud will continue fighting to make education more affordable, accessible, and supportive for every learner.

03

Healthcare, Human Services, and Dignity in Care

Every Minnesotan deserves care, dignity, and support when they need it.

As Co-Chair of the Human Services Finance and Policy Committee, Mohamud has worked to protect seniors, children, people with disabilities, caregivers, and families who rely on essential services. These services are not abstract government programs. They are lifelines for real people.

Mohamud has helped lead work to strengthen Medical Assistance, disability services, senior care, mental health, children and family services, home and community-based services, and supports for caregivers and direct support professionals.

He believes Minnesota must protect vulnerable people and protect public dollars at the same time. That means stronger oversight, fraud prevention, provider accountability, program integrity, and continuity of care so families are not harmed when systems fail.

Mohamud will continue fighting for a care system that is compassionate, accountable, easier to navigate, and focused on the dignity of every person.

04

Immigrant Rights and Civil Liberties

Minnesota is stronger because of immigrant families. In District 60B, immigrants are neighbors, students, workers, business owners, caregivers, parents, elders, faith leaders, and community builders.

Mohamud believes every resident deserves dignity, due process, and constitutional protection. No family should live in fear of going to school, work, worship, court, the doctor, or the grocery store.

He stands with immigrant families and against policies that create fear, separate families, or undermine trust between communities and public institutions. Public safety and civil rights must go together.

Mohamud supports due process, legal assistance, know-your-rights education, data privacy protections, protection for sensitive locations, support for impacted families, and public safety policies rooted in trust rather than fear.

05

Economic Opportunity, Workers, and Small Businesses

Strong communities need strong local economies.

Mohamud supports small businesses, workers, entrepreneurs, workforce development, commercial corridor investments, access to capital, technical assistance, and pathways to good-paying jobs.

As a former Chair of the Jobs and Economic Development Committee, Mohamud helped lead work to support small businesses, rebuild economic corridors, expand workforce training, invest in broadband, strengthen worker protections, and support child care access.

In District 60B, small businesses are more than storefronts. They are community anchors. They create jobs, serve families, support immigrant entrepreneurs, and keep neighborhoods vibrant.

Mohamud will continue fighting for good-paying jobs, union rights, worker protections, entrepreneurship, workforce development, and investments that help local businesses grow and stay rooted in the community.

06

Safer Communities Built on Trust

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their neighborhood, school, workplace, home, and place of worship.

Mohamud believes public safety must be built on trust, prevention, accountability, and opportunity. Safety is not achieved by fear alone. It requires stable housing, youth support, mental health care, violence prevention, survivor services, and strong community partnerships.

Mohamud supports violence prevention, youth programming, mental health response, survivor support, gun violence prevention, safe streets, police accountability, and investments that address the root causes of crime.

He will continue working for public safety policies that prevent harm, protect civil rights, support victims and families, and build trust between communities and the institutions meant to serve them.

07

Modern Government and Accountability

Government should work for the people it serves.

Mohamud's background in computer science and public systems gives him a clear understanding of how outdated technology can delay services, frustrate workers, create errors, and make it harder for families to get help.

He has championed efforts to modernize Minnesota's human services technology, replace outdated systems, improve applicant portals, strengthen fraud prevention, support county and Tribal Nation technology, and make public services faster, clearer, and more accountable.

Mohamud believes modern government means better service for families, better tools for frontline workers, stronger oversight, fewer delays, and greater trust in public systems.

He will continue fighting to make government more transparent, more accountable, easier to navigate, and focused on results.
